Twins infielder, Luis Rodriguez, was born June 27th, 1980 in San Carlos, Venezuela. He graduated from Sixto Sosa High School, Cojedos, VZ in 1997. He played minor league baseball all of 2004 and made his major league debut on May 21st, 2005 with the Minnesota Twins.
From 2003-04, Luis was the main second baseman for Rochester AAA minor league team. He also played a handful of games at third base and shortstop. In his entire professional career, Luis has never had a season where he struck out more than he walked. He has excellent plate discipline and he hit .295 and .286 respectively, with a combined .354 on base percentage.
In May 2005, the Twins called Luis up to replace rookie Jason Bartlett. Bartlett won the job in spring training, but after hitting woes, Luis was called. In his second MLB game, Luis made his first Major hit vs. Milwaukee and nearly one month later, he hit his first Major league home run.
Luis is one of eighty-two Venezuela baseball players on the MLB’s 40-man rosters for the 2005 season. It will be exciting to see what this rookie can bring to the Twins team!
