Minnesota Twins Rookie Relief Pitcher, Jose Mijares, was born on October 29, 1984 in Caracas, Venezuela. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent, March 22, 2002 out of the Twins’ Venezuelan Academy.
He began the season at Beloit (A, Midwest League), going 6-3, 4.31 (54.1 ip, 26 er) with 2 saves, 40 walks and 78 strikeouts in 20 appearances (6 starts) last season.
Jose was disabled with left shoulder tendonitis
in August, before his promotion to Ft. Myers.
He was 0-0, 1.50 (12.0 ip, 2 er) with 5 walks
and 17 strikeouts in 5 appearances (1 start) with
Ft. Myers.
He was added to the Twins 40 man roster in November of 2005, but will have a lot of competition in spring training for a full-time spot in the majors.
