Twins Infielder, Jason Bartlett, was born on October
30, 1979, in Mountain View, California. He played
baseball at St Mary’s high School (CA) and
later attended University of Oklahoma. He was
drafted in the 13th round of 2001 by San Diego.
In 2002, he was traded to the Twins for outfielder
Brian Buchanan.
Jason spent 3 years in the minors.
During his minor league career, he was named to
the Eastern League Post-Season All-Star team and
named Class AA All-Star. In 2002, he had a minor
ligament strain in his left hand that hampered
his game. In 2003, he tied for second in the league
for runs, was third in stolen bases and fourth
in hits. He led the Twins' minor leagues in runs,
walks and stolen bases. He tied for eighth among
all minor leaguers in runs and was 15th in hits.
He saw first big league action
when he was promoted to the Twins on July 27,
2004 when Nick Punto went on the DL. He went 0
for 5 before getting optioned back to Wings. He
was on the disabled list from May 10 to July 15
after suffering a fractured bone in his right
wrist when he was hit by a pitch from Dewon Brazelton.
He ended up going 13 for 23 in his last six games
of the season raising his batting average 22 points.
In 2005, he was ranked 10th among American League
rookies in walks, stolen bases and on-base percentage.
Jason has a solid bat and some speed
for a middle infielder, but his poor defense keeps
him from being a starter for the Twins. If he
can stay healthy and keep working on his defense,
he may be an option for the Twins in 2006.
