About Sawatdee:-
Supenn Harrison, owner of Sawatdee, has been extremely
successful because her restaurants -- seven of
them at last count -- offer a rendition of Thai
cuisine that appeals to the American palate. They
use fresh, high-quality ingredients and avoid
flavors that are too pungent or exotic.
The restaurant frequently has groups
of friends sitting by the cheery wall of windows
looking out on busy Washington Avenue, while couples
go for dimly lit, curvaceous booths in the middle
of the dining room. You must specify how spicy
you want your dish, or servers will automatically
bring you the mildest preparation. In a Thai restaurant,
that's almost a sin.
Starters such as fresh spring rolls
stuffed with barbecued pork and shrimp are more
consistently successful than main courses. Try
the zesty red chicken curry with nice hunks of
tender meat, or rama thai--plump shrimp in silky
peanut-curry sauce over steamed spinach. For dessert,
nothing is nicer than fresh mango with sticky
sweet rice.
Other menu selections include seafood, stir-fry,
salads, Country Style Vegetable Curry, Sweet Green
Chicken Curry and Chicken or Beef Delight which
boasts tender beef or chicken, scallions, mushrooms,
carrots and peapods sautéed in a savory
Au jus, placed on a bed of sliced potatoes.
The food is simply yummy and the location makes
this an easy stop when visiting downtown.
