Twins first baseman, Garret Jones, was born on
June 21, 1981 in Harvey, Illinois. He is a 1999
graduate of Andrew (IL) High School. Garret was
picked up by the Braves as a free agent in 2000
and then released in 2002. The Twins signed him
three days later.
In 2004, he began the season at Ft. Myers. He
boasted a 5-game hit-streak, going 8-19 (.421),
April 8-13. He was then promoted to New Britain
and was 9-20 (.450) in 5 games. He also hit safely
in 20 of 22 games, going 31-84 (.369), May 28-June
22.
He had a season-high 5 hits and
2-homer game, July 1 at New Hampshire. He also
hade home runs in three consecutive games and
was named Player of the Month twice. He led the
club in total bases (267), homers and RBI’s,
he tied for the club lead in batting, was second
in at-bats, hits and doubles. He tied for second
in runs, third in games and fourth in stolen bases.
He was second in the league in slugging percentage
(.593) and fifth in homers.
Garrett Jones is continuing his late-blooming run
up the Twins' organizational ladder. "I've
felt good at the plate," Jones said. "I
just have to work on being patient. My strikeouts
are really high [seven walks to 45 strikeouts]."
Garrett Jones was spotted by Paul Molitor last year
at Class A Fort Myers. Molitor, at the time, felt
Garret was a raw but intriguing first base prospect.
Garret has raw power, but needs to work on making
consistent contact. He's got good size and he's
a hard worker and yet another Twins first base prospect.
