Minnesota Twins
Bench Coach, Steve Liddle, is a 1977 graduate of McGavock
(TN) High School where he played baseball and basketball.
He played in state championships for baseball in his
sophomore year and basketball in his junior year. He
is a 1981 graduate of David Lipscomb University with
a degree in Physical Education. He was a member of the
1979 NAIA Championship team and was named NAIA All-American
in his junior and senior seasons. He signed with California
as a free agent on June 15, 1981.
In 1983, Steve led Eastern League
catchers in games, putouts, assists and double plays.
In 1984, he played on Pacific Coast League championship
team and in 1987 was acquired by Minnesota from California
in exchange for third baseman Stan Holmes. He threw
out 45 of 115 (39%) runners attempting to steal and
led Southern League catchers in assists (77) and double
plays (12).
In 1989, Steve was named manager of Class
A Kenosha, a Minnesota Twins affiliate in the Midwest
League. He coached there for 2 years and then in 1993,
was named manager of Class A Ft. Myers. He was promoted
to AAA Salt Lake in 1995. He produced two minor league
batting titles and two Pacific Coast League batting
champions. In 1997, he was named Manager of rookie level
Gulf Coast League Twins and in 1999 he was named Twins'
Minor League Field Coordinator. Finally, in 2002, he
was named Twins' bench coach, working under Ron Gardenhire.
