Brendan Harris was selected in the 5th round of the 2001 amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs but was sent to Montreal Expos as part of an eight-player, four-team trade that brought Nomar Garciaparra to Chicago.
Brendan Harris appeared in 20 games for Montreal, batting .160 with one home run and two RBI in 50 at bats. In 2005 and 2006, Brendan Harris saw limited playing time with the Washington Nationals. In July 2006, he was sent by Washington to the Cincinnati Reds.

He was 3rd on the club with 149 hits, 35 doubles and 521 at bats. Harris was also 4th in hitting at .286 and led the team with 8 sacrifice hits and 12 home runs. Brendan started just one of the first 11 games and moved into the starting lineup on April 15 for Ben Zobrist. He started 132 of the next 140 games through September 17 until a strained left latissimus dorsi muscle limited him to pinch running duties over the final two weeks.
Brendan Harris was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash on January 2, 2007 by the Minnesota Twins. On April 20th Brendan Harris hit his first home run for the Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Indians.
